British-Ghanian actor and Tommy Hilfiger model Sam Sarpong commits suicide by jumping off bridge
Yo Mama host Sam Sarpong jumped to his death from a bridge on the 26th of october, despite family and police spending seven hours trying to talk him down.Police said that they were called to the bridge yesterday morning after reports of a man standing on the outside of the railings.Trained negotiators were called while members of his family provided information on his previous emotional state.
However, after seven hours, he fell to his death and was pronounced dead just before 4pm.
Today, his sister June Sarpong, a popular TV presenter in Britain, released a statement, paying tribute to her brother.She said:
‘I love my brother very much. Sam was an amazing human being. His passing is a loss for the world.
Sarpong was an English-American actor, super-model, and musician. He performed in over sixty feature films, and fifty-five television shows, including such films asCarmen The Hip Hopera, Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Keeping Up with the Steins, Anchor Babyand No Weapons, for which he won best lead actor at the San Diego Film Festival. He was also the host on MTV’s Yo Momma for three seasons. He was one of the first black male models for designer Tommy Hilfiger and was the face of the brand for over six years.
Sam Sarpong was born in London and moved to Los Angeles with his father (a native of Ghana) when he was 11 years old.
