UK/Nigeria Social Service Collaborate With Lagos State Government

The training for social workers is sponsored by the FCO’s Consular Programme Fund and is being run by two social workers from Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB) an NGO.

With so many links between the UK and Nigeria and children moving between the two countries there are many cases which cross international boundaries and require social work intervention in both countries.

This training of 60+ social workers from Lagos State Government as well as NGOs aims to improve understanding of UK and Nigeria systems in order that cases with links to both UK and Nigeria can be handled most effectively.

The aims of the course are as follows:

Overview child protection system in the UK, legislation, structure, care proceedings, kinship assessments, interviewing adults
Assessments with children, expectations of the UK courts, skills, risk assessment, report-writing, inter-country collaboration
Exchange, new ideas, build skills, inter-country collaboration

Speaking during the training, Louise Murray from Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB), UK said she hopes the training will help to bring new ideas and ways of working with Lagos State. She said further that the training programme will help social workers in Lagos to better understand child protection in the UK, so that they can collaborate more effectively on cross border cases in the future.

Angela Wilson also from Children and Families Across Borders (CFAB), UK in her part said their approach to this work is that they operate through an international network that enables them to collaborate with local professionals on the ground.  They are seeing an increasing number of inter-country child protection cases and therefore an increasing need for inter-country collaboration between social workers in different countries.

That's all for today, more on Keeping Up With Vien Smart coming up soon.

R.I.P GOLDIE- The true cause of death of Goldie Harvey

LATE GOLDIE HARVEY  COVER'S  MYSTREETZ MAGAZINE . The cause of death has been found, Susan "Goldie" Harvey died last night, February 14th, 2013 at the Reddington Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos Nigeria from Pulmonary Embolism.  After confirming from her best friend, Denrele Edun, yesterday that the singer, Goldie  passed away right there in his sight at the Reddington Hospital at about 9:37 pm late last night, (valentines day) February 14th, 2013, the news became a wild fire. Many refused it and called it a rumour(as well as I), some were too busy in the arms of their loved ones (in my case, my bed), but this morning, we all woke up to the r...
