Petrol tankers explode in Alausa, Lagos (PHOTOS)
Reports filtering in indicate that an explosion has occurred in Alausa, Ikeja, the capital of Lagos city and seat of the the Lagos State Government.
The explosion reportedly occurred very close to the Alausa Central mosque, next to GTBank’s Alausa branch.
A fireball was visible several stories up and viewable from the Ikeja City Mall.
Some witnesses are reporting that it is a fire at the GTBank building which is several yards away from the central mosque.
Ibrahim Farinloye, a National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) worker says the Lagos fire service is tackling the blaze and that there are no casualties reported.

Brolls assures tenants of Ikeja City Mall, Alausa on safety after fire outbreak
NOTWITHSTANDING the fire out break that ravaged one of its malls recently, Broll Property Services Nigeria, and manager of the Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, Ikeja, has asserted its commitment to safety in the various property under its management.
The CEO, Broll Property Services Nigeria, Mrs. Erejuwa Gbadebo, made this known when addressing the recent fire outbreak at the Mr. Price Store, located within the Ikeja City Mall, Lagos.
Mrs. Gbadebo said, “We always ensure that we adhere to global best practices in facility management and property services. This extends to cases of emergency management and fire outbreaks, and as evidenced by the control of the outbreak at Mr. Price, we always ensure that the best mechanisms are effected to prevent or control such scenarios.”
The fire broke out at the mall around 11.15 am on Tuesday the 15th January 2013. While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, preliminary investigations point to a faulty power point as the source of the outbreak.
Mr. Steve Idornigie, the Operations Manager, Ikeja City Mall, said, “The attention of the Mall’s management was drawn to the fire which started at the Mr. Price shop. With assistance from the Lagos State Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Civil Defense Corps, we were able to swiftly contain and eventually extinguish the fire.”
“The various precautionary measures put in place by the management, like the fire detection and alarm system, fire extinguishers, water hose reels and sprinkler system all functioned effectively in curbing the fire. No goods were destroyed in the fire and nobody was hurt. The evacuation of the mall was also smooth and hitch-free.”
